Default 84 no go

The 84 vette has fuel spraying out the injectors but will not start. It will fire up and run on starting fluid. Can sort of keep it running if you pump the gas pedal rapidly. runs very poorly. It was running fine as a frogs hair, when the other day I was accelerating away from a stop and just as it reached about 40 MPH it just died. need help with fuel pressures. any idea's out there on what to check first?

Throwing any trouble codes? check your fuel pressure should be around 10 PSI. When was the last time you change the fuel filter? that may be resticting the flow

no codes. I will get a gauge on it tomorrow night if it's not raining. (I can't get it in the garage.) Thanks for the help so far.

How much fuel do you have in the tank? 84's have a problem of cutting out on hard acceleration when the fuel tank is low on fuel. It could be also if you were low that you may have had some junk in the tank and it has stopped up your fuel filter and/or your strainer on your fuel pump.

Damn, sorry about that, hope they make it right. Thought it looked like a pretty good deal but not for a blank page.
Not my web site, I didn't get the 5 bucks honest!

Do you have a Helms manual? Really handy. It's kind of hard to believe the car would run fine one minute and like a slug the next. I"ll pull my Helms and see what I come up with.

I wrote to them and they did make it right, Sorry I blew up.

Also the car has just under 1/4 tank. I will check pressures first, but the idea of junk in the tank on a 25 year old car makes sense. just don't understand as I can see fuel shooting out the injectors but it wont run on it. I wounder if I got water in the tank? I'll know more tonight and I am sure I will be back with more questions.

Don't trust your fuel guage...get some gas in it before you burn up the pump.

No need to apologize, would have ticked me off too. The water in the tank idea could be on target, if you can take a fuel sample let it sit in a clear plastic bottle, the water will settle out if that is the problem, good luck.

That would explain seeing the injectors squirt but still needing starting fluid to run.

RACE ON!!!

One last post on this thread. The 84 is up and running strong! The problem was indeed water in the tank. removed fuel filter and brown dirty water poured out the intake side of the filter. installed new filter. sucked out what I could from tank. Filled with 10 gallons fresh 92 octane. also put in 2 bottles heat. Baby fired right up.
