I've heard that if you use the synthetic gear lube, M1 or any of the other synthetics, we don't have to use the GM additive.

That's what I've heard....I have used the regular stuff that GM sells plus two bottles of GM additive when i change my gear lube...but I do it every winter....say less than 10k miles of use.

Specs call for 80W-90 GL-5 gear oil and two bottles of GM posi additive.

Even if you use synthetic oil (and some here say that you should not) use the GM additive anyway.

I stayed with all GM rear axle fluid and 2 bottles of the GM additive. My first dif oil change was at 60 K and it looked just fine, but I did it anyway.

If the product says it already contains the additive, and the M1 probably does, you do not need to add yet more of it.

A quick simple surf over to their homepage provides the info that you need. I am surprised this info is not on the bottle, are you sure it does not say this on there???

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/..._75W-90LS.aspx

Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required. For axles requiring the highest level of limited-slip performance, OEM specific LS additives can be added to this fluid.

This info is also on here in an old post if you used the search. For me, I would not add extra.

I have no idea, if I were you I would check the part number. Maybe the site lists it by part number instead of name.
