315 street tires or 275 DR's which will hook up better?
After my experience at the drag strip a couple weeks ago, Im looking to get better traction. Ive been planning on getting a wheel tire combo but I have a few options.
Buy the wheels only and put my current rear tires in the front and buy some nice 315 DR's for the rear.
Buy a wheel tire combo with sumitomo street tires(315) nice thing is no trips to tire shop.
Buy DR's for my current stock wheels
opinions anyone?

I don't agree, he needs to figure what he wants by weighing the benefits and detriments of each. if he only goes to the strip once a blue moon he should stick with the street tires and improve his time each time out. If he's going every weekend then he might want a set for the strip and a DD set. I really think drag radials have very little buisness on daily drivers.

Wider street tires don't really have too much effect rather than skinnier (to a certain extent)
Now, if you got a tire with MORE sidewall, it'll flex a little more than one without.
If I was choosing between a 315 street tire and a 275 drag radial..it would be a 275 drag radial without a doubt.

daily driving with a drag radial will significantly reduce the lifespan of the tire.the nitto drag radial is probably the best for daily use as far as life expectancy goes.
i would switch to a softer compound street tire for daily driving.i have heard sumitomos are soft and i have had very good street(and track)hooking with kumho ecsta mx tires.
as far as the track goes i would stick with a 275.the taller the tire the bigger the contact patch.

Once I got a pair of Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials, my 60 foot times consistently went under 1.75, and usually about 1.70. I only got that once on street tires. Even for an occasional drag race, drag radials can really substantially improve your times.

If you want traction get dr's, but don't expect them to last very long driving on the street. Don't worry about breaking anything, you're not making enough power.

well my car is a daily driver so I would like to get some good amount of tire life.So is it really worth going to a wider wheel/tire? Other than the fact that it just looks BAD ***? Would a 315 street tire do better than the 285 nitto streets I have now? Seriously I was doin 2.4 60' with these tires. I cant go through that again

the 315 looks nasty.try some kumho ecsta mx tires.they hook pretty darn good and won't break the bank.
if you go to the track alot then get some spare rims with drag radials.practice you launch.better than 2.4 can be had on street tires.

I have some Hoosier road race tires for sale. 315/17"
plenty of rubber left for many many passes. plenty for the water box.
$100 for the pair plus shipping

Get the Nitto 555r DR's. They are GREAT for street driving, grip 2x as well as my original GYears, don't hydroplane as other DR's on wet roads/rain, and last longer than soft DR's. I have ha dmine on my car now for about 10k miles and am down to about 1/2 tread.
At the track you have to heat them up well to get the to soften up, but they are good for hard and grippy launches.

You should be able to do better than a 2.4 on street tires...even I got down to a 2.0x on my 285-35x18 Goodyear GS-D3's....

Typical 60's for me with the 315 Sumitomo street tires are 1.9. I have also had 1.8 60's and if I remember correctly even a 1.7 once. Track prep, tire pressure, and technique are extremely important.
