There can be lots of differences in heads. However, the valve cover mounting only affects how the vave covers attach, nothing else.

Also take in consideration the TPI intake manifold bolt pattern as well. Your '87 uses a different bolt lineup style than say vortec heads.

Which has nothing to do with the valve cover mounting. See post #2.

I know it has nothing to do with valve cover mounting. But what I getting at is when you start researching heads on the market and find one that doesn't have center bolt valve cover mounts, more than likely, not always but more than likely, they are targeting the standard 350 engine, not the TPI L98. I guess what I'm saying is if you want to use your stock intake manifold on your L98, make sure its bolt pattern lines up as well.

You have that backward. There are many, many more perimeter mount valve cover heads with the "TPI L98" intake manifold bolt pattern, than there are center bolt heads with the "TPI L98" intake manifold bolt pattern. The real caution would come when looking for center bolt heads, that they have the correct intake bolt pattern. The "TPI L98" uses the same intake manifold bolt pattern as every other Gen I, SBC, built between 1955 and 1986. All Corvette L98s have the same intake manifold bolt pattern, including the 1985 and 1986E, L98s with perimeter bolt valve covers.

There are lots of head variations that can, and should be considered, but none are dependent on whether the head is perimeter or center bolt valve cover mounting. Hence post #2, which states, "There can be lots of differences in heads. However, the valve cover mounting only affects how the valve covers attach, nothing else."
