Default Leek / Coolant flush/refill on LT4

Well, my car (96 LT4), startet too leek coolant from the front, under the radiator, so since I was planning on cleaning out the radiator this winter anyway, I just startet buy pulling out the radiator...

Now I cant see any damage or leek on it. Should I have it testet, or is there a way to do that myself?

Does somenbody have the procedure for refilling/flushing the system once I get the radiator back inn? I understand that it is somewhat different form my old 87....

You can get a pressure tester that attaches in place of the radiator cap, pump it up to the proper PSI, and look for leaks. There also kits that have a die in them so you can see under the special (ultraviolet, comes with the kit) light. Probably, if the radiator is leaking, its the plastice side tanks. Hard to see them behind the plastic, but often are the source of the leak.

When mine went it was the water pump that leaked and squirted in front near the radiator.

Just had the WP replaced on my '96 CE LT4. The leak showed underneath the hood, along the top of the support beam in back of the radiator. The hood splatter was because it was falling on the serpentine belt and getting slung up under the hood.

Anyway, I have the radiator out, and will try and fill it with water...

There is a weep hole under the wp you can see if it is wet. Mine also squirted onto the serp belt and had some fluid slung onto the underside of the hood. I also was getting a loss of my power steering as the antifreeze was lubricating the belt and it was slipping causing the ps pump to not spin enough.

I bet its the WP. Mine did the same thing (still have the stain on the hood). The WPs are commonly known to go early on the LT4s. Mine went at 25k miles.

OK don't laugh, but did you check the hose clamps? Make sure the clamps are tight and not allowing fluid to leak out.

Take your Vette to AutoZone for a free pressure test. They will attach the test kit and pressurize to 15 lbs. and see where the coolant leaks from.

Good luck.

since the nearest autozone is about 6500km away, I just filled it with water 5 minutes ago. Even at no preasure its leeking from the bottom right corner, not from the drain tab, but somewhere between the alu and plastic.

time for a new radiator for Lars87 it seems
