Alternator carnage w/ pics
Let's see who can guess what caused this damage first

Looks like the one I got from Advance. First time the motor saw 6000 rpm, it did that.

My first one was a lifetime guaantee unit. It lasted a week with the mini ram. Locked up. The replacement was in the car 1/2 hour when the little plastic fan exploded. They replaced that one but I did not even install it. Went to the Zone and bought a NEW one. Got about 5k HARD miles on it.

the one in the pics had to have 200 passes on it and at least 5k on the street, but it didnt last in front of the 383

The alternator never entered my mind as needing an upgrade when doing performance mods.
I hope you got a good replacement.

The cure partially
This is the upgraded alternator that I put in,a Powermaster 140@ that was a direct replacement

Is it because you used the AIR bypass and had no bracket behind the alt to hold it in place?

No it is not, the alt is supported in the rear

To measure your Alternator speed in rpms
divide your crank pulley diameter by the Alt pulley diameter
then multiply by the max RPM your going to run. DO NOT EXCEED 18,000, if your number is higher you need to address your pulleys
