Stock pushrod length
I believe a 1990 L98 is 7.80 inches.
Verification?

An 8" caliper will do the job as long as all you intend to do is 23 degree SBC's (or 302 brand X).
According to my Manley book:
Stock SBC flat tappet cam is 7.800
Stock SBC hyd roller cam is 7.195
