I have a 1984 corvette with major electrical problems. Namly, I have no parking lights or horn, but have headlights and brake lights. When I pull the headlight switch the first setting instantly blows the 10 amp fuse and no parking or console lights. The full pull on the switch and my headlights pop up and light. Secondly, I have a 12 volt draw off the battery with the key out of the ignition and hood closed and the timed lights go off. I unplugged the dash cluster (newly rebuilt) and still have this draw.
Could the cars computer be faulty drawing the battery down? I have a new battery and alternator. Could, if my car has an anti theft device, the alarm be screwing with the horn and shorting out my parking lights? Behind my D.I.C. is like a chaotic birds nest. nothing is nice and neat. There is a blue box the size of a cigarette pack with wires going in one end and out the other. Could this be the alarm? I have a factory service manuel and there isnt a picture of the security system.
If anyone could give sound advice I sure would appreciate it.
Is it only popping one fuse? If it is, look at a wiring diagram and see whats on that line. Maybe a shorted wire? look for loose connections. I do my own work, and sometimes it takes me a few days to logically figure it out.
Looks like the security box is next to the heater core housing under the carpet on the pass. side. Do all 84's have anti-theft devices or was it a option?
