clutch adjustment
mine grabs near the top and this is not the first clutch in this car.
the only time i liked where it engaged was when fluid was leaking out of the slave cyl. and it engaged near the floor!
Top engagement is normal and there is no way to adjust it.
Might want to fill out your profile, or at least include the year of your car in your post.
being in the c4 part of the forum i thought it was a given that it is a c4.
i have a 1990 and the only time the pedal felt good was when i was low on fluid due to a leaking slave cyl. do you think spacing the slave back from where it bolts on would lower the action?
thanks steve struss
The transmissions were different based apon year. Newer got the 6 speed, where the older cars had a 4 speed with an overdrive unit. The clutch type is different for each, that's why I needed to know the year.
To be sure we're talking about the same thing, lets define some terms. The slave is mounted on the bell housing. It is what actuates the clutch fork. The master cylinder is mounted on the firewall and is attached to the clutch pedal.
If you were to move the slave out, it would theoretically give you the action your looking for. However, I think you'll run out of stroke on the slave cylinder before you achieve any noticeable results. I also think that you'll just end up adding fluid, which will take out the slack of moving the slave. In the end, I don't think you'll be able to make it work just by moving the slave, but I've been wrong before.
If you were to modify the slave rod and make it longer, you might be able to do what you want to do though.
I've never heard of anyone trying to do what you are doing though, so I could be completely wrong. I don't really know enough about fluid dynamics to say for sure if it would work or not. In my opinion though, your theory is sound.
Good luck!
