I have a 1990 with the Bose Gold Radio. The Cd went bad as they all do, so I sent it out and had it repaired.
I mentioned that along with the bad CD, the left front speaker appears to be at a higher volume then the
right. They fixed the CD and said that the radio is to spec. Since there is no apparent balance control
between left and right on the radio, is there a gain pot somewhere? I believe that there is a radio head
unit somewhere. Is there an adjustment on this or is there one at the amp on the speaker? Any help would
be appreciated.
Thanks
The CD player is just the control head. Under the passenger side of the instrument panel is the receiver. As far as the speakers go, each one has it's own amp and they are problematic. The amp design was upgraded in 94 to withstand heat better. If you are electrically minded, I have some information on fixing the amps. However, on the 90 I had, I found the amp circuitry to be potted and so you couldn't access the solder on the board without wrecking every thing. In the end, I bought a new pair of speakers from Corvette Central who had the best price. Make sure they have them in stock as they are famous for back ordering. Replace the pair, not just one. And the ones from CC, or probably any replacement you buy, will be the upgraded amp design.
