96 vette hood prop stuck?

96 vette hood prop stuck?
A while back I got a hood prop for a 96 vette to use on my 86, when I got it I checked to see if it worked properly by pushing the strut down and letting it return on it's own, thats the last time I checked it. After installing it on my car it's now stuck fully extended.. no matter how hard I push down on it I can't get it to budge.. any ideas?

yeah, it's extended about 1/4th of an inch above where it would rest on the tube, hood isnt on yet, prop is just bolted to the car.. like I said it worked when i first got it and tested it, but after I took the time to bolt it to the car it won't go back down..
