So I have decided to turn my 87 into a "off road only" car for next season's autocross and track day events.
I'll be installing headers (Hedman Elite's) and go with a true dual exhaust custom bent at the shop where I work. My question is for autocross or track use what size should the pipe be from the collectors back? The car has a mild cam (old ZZ3), balanced and bluprinted, the heads have had some flow work done and port matching on the intake runners.
I'm thinking 2 1/2" pipes that will pretty much follow the stock routing and use an X-pipe where the main cat would be. Should I run some sort of muffler for a little backpressure or will L98's run strong without backpressure? I have these mufflers from Mid-America which are really noting more than a pair of 12" glasspacks for each side.
