GRX, I can't tell you about any others, only about the Vortech SQ kit. I bought it directly from Vortech (pricey!) but it shipped quickly. The kit is NOT for basic mechanics IMHO, there just simply isn't enough room to work inside the engine compartment. The kit instructions could have been better according to my mechanic. He added a bunch of hose sleeves to make sure there was no rubbing and had to call Vortech about 5 times during the installation due to mistakes/omissions in the instructions. Overall I'm satisfied with the product (car really takes off on the top end!) but there is no way I could have done it myself. Just to give you an idea, I did a complete rebuild/install on my 1969 small block ford in my Cougar last year with no problems so I consider myself a basic mechanic. Based upon what I saw and heard from my mechanic, this was way above my abilities. Besides, I don't have a lift for dropping the exhaust and putting that hole in my oil pan
I'm not sure if Jackson Racing makes a charger for the Vette but if they do I would look into buying from them. I know several people who have bought from them and have all been happy
www.carrollsupercharging.com the BEST kits and service around.
these kits use paxton or Vortech blowers. the kits from vortech are enhanced by carroll for reliability, the major advances in teh carroll kit are with the intercooling/water injection, and fuel system.
Vortech is the best because of it's reliability, service and support. Of course I've only run with a Vortech S/C so can't talk from first hand basis on the other types. You may want to search the archives on http://www.camaroz28.com under Forced Induction as this topic has been talked about several times.
The best comprimise is Vortech Supercharger with an ATI air-to-air Intercooler I think. I've got the intercooler on order and will be able to update you as the project progresses.
ATI has earned their bad reputation. Their warrenty is basically useless. They decide if they will warrenty it or not. If you do the ATI, stay very far away from the 600B. ATI is basically a $4000 gamble. Their sales department is clueless. Every once in a while you find a tech support dude that knows the difference between a socket and a wrench.
Their intercooler is a good add-on to the Vortech unit. As stated above, Vortech doesn't offer a complete kit for the L98. It would take some crafting.
I'm not sure Carroll offers a kit. I believe they do all the work.
I would go with a carrol supercharger for a L98 C4's. As of last fall they still do make Superchargers, as I talk to them on teh phone about their kit.
I run the P-600B ATI unit. I have experience with turbo C-4s, Votech equiped C-4s, and now the ATI. I will agree that some of the ATI tech dept are "clueless", but I am looking at buying another unit and it will be an ATI D-series. That in itself, says they are doing something right. I do all the work myself, and would express that these are not simply "bolt-on" kits. Know what you are getting into, be prepared to address all support systems on the vehicle.
My previous combo can be seen by going to my forum site. I sure do need to get some pics of the new combo on the site. It looks very nice.
I would take a step back and look at building a 408 or 420 small block since you have an L98. You can get most of the hp without the hassel and expense of a blower. A blower motor really needs forged pistions so your going into the motor anyway. A 520 hp 420 ci is a pretty easy motor to put together. Felpro has a new gasket for 400 small block motors that is supposed to help the cooling situation.
Jeez, I was at Blower Drive Service in Santa Fe Springs yesterday. Had I known I woulda asked on your behalf. BTW , -forged pistons- good idea! Have you a copy of the P A W catalog?
Aqua, I live in CA and I need a setup that allows ultra quick return (or no return would be better!) to stock conditions so that I can pass this states p#$$y smog laws.
