I didn't mean the supercharger. I know they are legal. I meant that the 383 might provide a problem when it comes to the smog referees.
Thanks for the input! :chevy

When I talked to the ATI Guru about not having an air pump for smog purposes, he said the S/C is the big air pump and that is why ATI S/Cs are C.A.R.B. certified. They help reduce NOX when installed. According to your original post you are looking for a kit for your 85. I got a P600b intercooled but I have not installed it yet. The guru said I would get around 6lbs of boost with AFR190 heads a S/R intake and long tube headers on my 85. He did suggest that i should upgrade to the D-1 if I wanted big gains. I also asked if I could use the self-contined unit that utilizes it's own oil supply and he said that it would not fit under the hood in the 85, so ATI limits you to the P600b, and the D-1. I also understand that the P600b can be upgraded to radial or cupped impeller blades and this helps create boost at lower rpm levels. This is like their old P1200, and that's great for a low reving L-98. With higher boost levels, I would be concerned with ring failure on the 85 before piston failure. I would suggest that you consider buying from a ATI or Vortech dealer or Carroll instead of direct from the manufacturer. It has been my experience you get better advise and assitance from a dealer as they have more to loose in their reputation and customer staisfaction. I am listing a couple of dealers below that seem to have the best prices I have found on the net for Paxton and ATI. There aren't any Vortechs for the L-98 Vettes except through Carroll.

Good luck with your decision

They have a stroker engine package, give them a call.
You don't have to run a big cam with a supercharger.
A lot of times a stroker will actually run cleaner.
It all depends on the package.

Aqua, I live in CA and I need a setup that allows ultra quick return (or no return would be better!) to stock conditions so that I can pass this states p#$$y smog laws.

You don't have to remove it.
Carroll Supercharged and intercooled package is C.A.R.B. certified!

The L98 kit is only 49 state legal, guess which state is not. The blower simply wont pass the visual inspection in CA. You will have to pull it.

That's funny, they told me it was for the upper RPM's.
ATI tech support, go figure. :smash:

Check the thread above. It is the basis of my understanding of the P1200b rpm range. I'll check with ATI and see what they say.
