Default [help please] Are my plugs shot?

My car recently wouldnt idle so for the heater, brake booster etc we took it in to have it looked at. The bolds on the lower runners were loose causing a leak. Whoever told me use the butane to check for a leak, thanks, thats how they did it in their shop. It is ok sometimes and other times still wont idle. could my plugs/wires be shot? The previous owner user her for an occasional driver at best and that probably didnt help them. Could the plugs and wires be a cause of this? After all the idle reading is .62-- similar to an idle of 800 rpm but she idles at 5-6. Sometiems it will start and idle. Other times i have to keep it going with the pedal.. No pattern either. Sometimes will start/idle at 6 okay, sometimes no chance.

Kinda real simple,.... pull them out and have a look. Spend a $1 and get a gapping tool. See how wide the gap is, compared to what it should be.

I'll guess you have a stock ignition. True?

Yeah-- it runs fine at 800 and up but i have to manually idle it. Whats so special about a spark plug socket and a normal deep welled socket? If nothing significant ill have a quick look and re-gap them if necessary.

SP sockets will have a piece of foam in them to hold the plug for install, and helps prevent cracking them.

When was the last time the wires were changed. W/ that much mileage, I would suspect the whole ignition system. i.e. Wires, plugs, cap, rotor, distrib gear. Your plugs should give you a good indication as to how well your ignition is working. Put a timing light on it. See if the timing is bouncing around all over the place at idle. (Worn distrib gear.)

Dude just CHANGE them like I've been telling you for weeks now. :)

Plugs & Wires = $60 from Speed Demon
Rotor/Cap = ~$30
