Default Serpentine Belt

Well I posted earlier on the "Smog Fallout" subject and instead of buying a pulley system i think im just going to go with a new serpentine belt, after 20 years I figure its time for a new one anyways. Only problems im having is figuring out the exact length belt I will need. I think the stock belt was 90", and im just not sure how to acurately measure whats the new belt should be.

Was just wondering if any of you have done the same operation on your car and what length belt you are using. I tried searching the web and the forum and couldnt find any clear cut answers.

Thanks,
Dave

go to your local auto parts store, tell them you may need to exchange the ''book'' recommended belt for a different one, BEFORE you buy...most stores will be happy to ''work with you'' IF you ask before AND return a ''wrong'' belt unused, in its original jacket...fyi, the last three digits of the belt p/n are typ length xx.x''

You probably won't find anyone willing to "guess" at your belt length.

Wrap a rope or a string around the pulleys and measure the length. After you have bought the belt and found out even the right length won't work, maybe they will still take it back. People aren't spending $150.00 on smog pump eliminator idler pulley kits just for the fun of it.

RACE ON!!!

Get two of the tape measures found in fabric stores and tape one end to the other and get a precise measurement. My wife has several of them, which she used for sewing.
