Default 1994 optispark question

I have heard there are two optispark dist for the 94's. There is a optispark 1 and the 94-1/2s have an optispark 2. I am needing to replace the cap and rotor on mine and dont know how to tell which one I have. Can I tell somehow by referencing my VIN?? Is there an easy way to tell which one I have so I can order the right one before I tear into replacing them??

All the 94 Y-bodies got the early version. The 94 b-bodies got the later version.

As Mojave noted, all '94 Corvettes got the lousy Gen-1 Opti.

Rather than swapping only your cap & rotor, I'd suggest you consider replacing the entire unit with the MSD Opti.

I just read on the Summit online catalog that you can tell the difference between the two by looking for two vacuum lines on the drivers side of the opti 2. all others are opti 1. I would love to replace the opti with a new MSD unit. I am trying a major tuneup first. When the wife cools down about the vette purchase I will upgrade to the MSD unit. Thanks

I believe you can install an Opti-2 cap on a Opti-1 version without any problems. You would then have to add the tubing and check valve to your system and connect that to an intake manifold source.

Later .. .Larry S.

If it's an Opti 2 it will have small vent tubes running up to the intake system. I do not beleive that the 94's came with the Opti 2, but someone may have upgraded before you.

The MSD is a sweet piece. Too bad you can't see it once it's installed. It works good too!

I replaced the original Optispark on my 94 LT1 about four months a go. The car had 71,500 miles on it when I bought it and the opti was way over-due for replacement.

I bought and installed the MSD unit and it has preformed very well for me. I really like the fact that it is vented and that part of the installation was very easy (unlike the rest of the replacement ... getting the harmonic balancer off was extremely difficult!). Anyway the MSD unit has been excellent for me so far.
