Anyone out there running 4.56 gears - are there any unusual worries in going this low - I have a 95 6 spd and if I'm going to keep I'm wanting more quickness - it currently has 3.45 stock.
Thanks

They won't work with your carrier. I believe 3.73 or 3.92 is as high as you can go without a complete change out. Check to be sure.

Unless you are planning on running a really tall drag slick, it's too much.
You'll be shifting constantly around town. 4.10's are perfect with the 6 spd.
I had a 4.56 set in a Cobra kit. The smallblock was a very high-winding engine, but it was still a nuisance to drive. Even though all my favorite things start with a 4, I'd not have a 4.xx gear set again.

4.10's are a whole different story in our M6's. With 4.10 in sixth gear, my car is turning 1850 rpms at 70 mph. Two overdrives definately help tame a 4.10 gearset.

Why do you want 4.56?
Lower is not necessarily better. It needs to match up with the power band of the car and what you plan on using it for.
I bet you'll lose time in the 1/4 with 4.56 gears, your gas mileage will suck, freeway driving will be noisy, and around town drivability will include way more shifting or skipping gears.

Well said.
Right now in the 1/4 I am just about to run out of 4th gear at the end so the 4.10's are perfect, until I add more power. And then I'll need LESS gear, not more.
I forget the ratio but the new Z06's have a fairly high gear (low numerically) in the rear don't they? Same thing with the Viper I think.
I remember reading years ago that the optimmum drag racing gear is around 10 to 1 (first gear times rearend). With the 700R4/4L60 that would be around a 3.3 rearend ratio. With the stick it would 4.00 gears.
HMMM, someone was pretty darn close years ago.
You have to think what the ratio will go to speed and rpm wise, then how second gear will hit, wether it bogs it down (kinda like the 700r4/4L60 does) or pulls hard.
A lot of comparisons on 1/4 mile. Ours shortened to 1000 feet then 1/8 mile. No one around here runs 1/4 anymore. 1/8 mile is about standard. Anyone have data on 1/8 mile with dana 44 4.10 or 4.56 gear sets

Everything is relative, the transmission gear, tire dimensions and the rear axle. There's many different answers for you - none are definitive - the only guy who might understand is the "winner" - the guy who lost only knows that either he, the equipment or maybe both ain't gittin' it!!
