Default 93 LT-1 Running Rough

For the most part my new, to me, 93 runs good. The highway mileage is 24 and 19 mixed town and highway. It starts great and will take right off after a minute. The idle is a little rough and high at 800. This doesn't concern me too much but it really runs rough at 1200 to 1300. At 1500 it smooths right out. It is really annoying under load. I only pulled one plug and it looked good with a gap of .048. The wires look like OEMs. I just found the procedure for pulling codes tonight. I guess this is the place to start? Is there a consensus here on the life of the 02 sensors? Later! Frank

If it has the stock AC plugs with the platimun pucks, they have a tendency to fall off which changes the gap and causes a miss.

Sometime in it's 88K life the previous owner changed the plugs to Bosch. (R6 662 HR8DPX Platinum) I have no idea how many miles or even if this is the right plug. Thanks for the replies. Later! Frank

The stock multec injectors have a high failure rate. Every time I've heard of someone who thinks they have injector problems getting theirs tested, like 2 out of 8 of thier multecs test bad. I've still got the multecs on my car and I'm just waiting for a reason to shell out the dough for new ones.

You say it's really annoying under load at low RPMs, which kind of reminds me of when my cats were clogged.

I don't know right now the condition of the cats but I will shortly. The exhaust from front to rear is original. The mufflers are rusted in several places. I have a pair of Magnaflow Stainless on the way.

When you say the Opti needs replacing are you talking rotor & cap kit or the complete distributor? Later! Frank

I did the cap&rotor replacement, but you need to inspect it first.

The opti won't show any codes, but check those 1st in case it's something else.

BTW you know you can make the codes come up on the dash right?

I am a big believer in planning and trouble shooting before spending time and money on parts. Plugs, wires and having the injectors refurbed are all on my to-do list. I opted for the mufflers first because it just doesn't sound as hot as it looks. The Opti wasn't. Later! Frank

PS: Thanks Brian. I found the section here that explains how to get the codes up. I might tackle that tomorrow if the mufflers don't show. More than likely I will be here tomorrow night for more help.

I followed the instructions for getting the CCM codes. No problems except for making my old body bend the right way to get under the dash. Module # 1 had the code C 12 stored. The first time through module #9 showed H 83. The next two times it did not appear. What do these codes tell me? My favorite color delivery truck just dropped off my new Magnaflow mufflers. Later! Thanks for the link. The C 12 code is no tach signal. Helping Momma with Xmas has put a hold on trouble shooting on the Vette until this morning. Sure hope new wires and plugs take care of the miss/vibration. The engineer that designed the Opti and it's location should be real proud. With the aid of my extend-able mirror and a flashlight I was able to get a fairly good look at the Opti. The front is pale yellow. I take it, that it is an MSD? I would like to trace the wires first to ensure all are tight on both ends an where they should be. Can someone post a photo or link to show me which wire numbers go where on the Opti? Can the vibration dampener be installed in more than one position and if so, what would the result be? Later! Frank

The dampner only goes on one way at least on my 95, and the original opti is a diahrrea yellow color, the msd's are red. I think your next purchase should be a shop manual, it really helped me The shop manuals have great diagrams and instructions!
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply Chris. Santa is bringing the manual. Until then I need a little help from those that have one. Can you look in yours and tell me what the terminal numbers are? Thanks. Later! Frank

C 12 in module one means it is functioning properly. H83 in module 9 is brake fluid low. and it is correct, add fluid. Other than that your car is sound! Good luck! I wish mine was problem free!
