I just recentley bought my first vette a 92 aut. coupe. I don't have any where to go to get a dyno. it runs 0-60 mph in aprox. 6 sec. is this normal. Also i was wondering - when i floor it from a standstill it dosen't spin the wheels, just a tiny squeak is all I get  . I would think that a car with around 300 hp would do a heck of alot more. :) Please give me your thoughts.
When I had the 2.59 gears in mine, it did very little spinning on take off. I think it is normal. If you really want to spin you have to hold the brake give it a little gas then release brake and floor it at the same time.
When car the car still had GSC's, it would get sideways from a rolling start. :yesnod: After installing SZ50's it still spins, but not near as much as before. You should check your TPS. When I bought the car the transmission would not kick down unless I really got on it, and one time it did not kick down even when I hammered it at speed. I installed a 52mm TB and adjusted the TPS. Result: :D BIG difference. Try this mod first; it might be just what you are looking for. :yesnod:
That is normal for an LT-1 auto. My 95 could never spin the tires from a dead stop but managed to run 13.5 @ 104 in the 1/4... go figure. The LT-1 is known for it's high rev-ability not low end grunt like the L-98
This may sound stupid, but I did it, I just bought my first LT1, 93 40th, I thought it was a pooch for two days until I turned off the ASR. It turns on automatically each time you start up the engine. Push and hold the button (left hand side by the lights) until you see the "ASR OFF" on the diag panel. Stomp it and feel the spin. My 93 backend spun until I let off. Sweet!!!
Thats funny...I can get a pretty good amount of spin...just turn off my trac control...and from a dead stop at a light, I will spin most of the way through first and chirp in second. I have fairly new tires too... Michelin Pilot XGT Z4's. I get a little spin with traction control on but then it grabs the road and its all over :nonod:
Well my new 1992 vette has 12,000 miles, stock until tomorrow when my Corsa comes :yesnod: !!!, has the 2.59 rearend, when i punch it the tire instantly light up and the car goes sideways!!! I dont know why some of the other cars dont but I can spin them all day long. no powerbraking or such just hammer it and they melt. Maybe cuz they have the ASR on?
:D
With all these opinions, I got a bit curious - so last night i took it to a parkinglot and went . Aparently i can fry the tires all i want doing a brakestand. But, when launching from a dead stop it only spins the wheels for a sec or two. Please keep in mind thats its a automatic. I think that it would be fairly easy to smoke with a manual trans? Also, it may have something to do with the type of tires. Right now its fitted with Yokohama 275x17x40 all way around. Can't really figure out if thats a good or a bad thing (had different opinions from different people). All in all THANKS FOR THE MASSIVE REPLY!!
My 96 LT1 w/2.59s auto seems to depend on the weather. Real hot and humid with warm pavement sometimes it will spin a little, sometimes not. Take the outside temp down to 60 or 65 it will spin'em hard and sideways! Runs real strong up top. Probably will be ordering 3.54s next year.
My 95 with the 3.07 rear will spin the tires very easily from a dead stop (enough to get sideways if your not careful) and leave a good patch as it shifts into second...
 My stock 96 LT4 Z51 from a 1500-1800 RPM launch will wag the tail all the until 2nd gear arrives then give a little wheel spin coming out of 2nd. After that its nose up wide open :D
