I am a new owner of a '94 Coupe w/automatic. 42k on the trip.
My analog Oil Temp gauge doesn't work. Digital works fine. Was wondering if anyone has info for that. Where is the sending unit located? Thanks!
There is a single sending unit package with two sensors in it above the oil filter.
One sensor with two connections is for the digital gauge and the other sensor with one wire is for the analog gauge -- the analog gauge uses ground for the other connection.
Hi Tom,
The new sending unit on the on-line catalogs describe it as having a 3 terminal connection. Does that sound correct? If so how hard is it to replace? On a scale 1-10?
Thanks,
Tim

Yes, three connections -- two for the digital gauge and one for the analog gauge.
Are you sure the wire for the analog gauge isn't broken somewhere?
The odds are the wire is the problem and not the sender.
No I'm not sure....I've had the car for 1 week and am just now looking into this. Was thinking the $35 part wasn't a bad try.
I'll crawl under the car and see if there is a broken wire.
Thanks!
I think the wire for the analog gauge is green -- but, check the service manuals for sure.
By disconnecting the connector at the sensor, you can test the gauge.
Short the analog gauge wire to ground, the gauge should go full scale in one direction -- I think it will be down scale all the way.
With the wire not connected to anything, it will go to the other end of the scale -- probably full upscale.
If the gauge responds properly, the gauge is working and the sensor is probably the problem.
Yep, test the wiring before anything. Not sure if the wire insulation is the same color as my 92.
It is located directly above the oil filter. The ECM sends signal from termial (C15) 5v throught ckt 1313 (dark green wire). The sensor has three wires.
Dark green (1313) is the ECM signal
Black (808) is the ground
Dark green with white stripe (135 ) is to the I/P guage
Get a jumper wire and ground one end and place the other end in terminal "C" of the EOT sensor connector. The oil temp gauge should go all the way "hot".
If it does, replace the sensor.
If not, check that circuit for a poor connection. If it checks good, replace or repair the instrument cluster.
That terminal "C" is the dark green with white stripe wire. It goes from the sensor to the analog gauge.
The black wire is a ground.
The dark green wire goes from the sensor to the digital gauge.
If the wiring test good, the sensor usually will need replacing.
FYI
I crawled under the beast and found duct tape wrapped around the wires at the sending unit.(small clue) The wires are dangerously close to the catalitic converter. I assume they were burned/charred some time ago.
I couldn't get the harness off the sending unit. I'll wait 'til the oil filter comes off at the next change and inspect the wires.
Thanks Guys.
