Hi everyone, I just recently replaced my stock air filter with the K & N. I was wondering of how much horsepower it gain? I also looked at my instant MPG Gauge and it seems that I gain from 12.3 MPG city to 13.5 I was wondering if it's a computer error, or does it also improve MPG?
BTW I only replace the air filter, not the whole air intake.
I would guess about 5 to 8 HP. I have the same car and I also replaced the thermostat to a 160 degree along with a chip and replaced the catalytic converter with a pipe and it seems to run alot better. Cooler running engine will improve power.

Your not going to be able to tell by looking at the instant MPG gauge.
It's just what it says it is "INSTANT". Meaning at that precise instant in time. 2 seconds later and it changes.
The only sure fire way to tell if you've made any improvement in mileage is to run a few tanks of fuel through.
Calculate how many miles you traveled and divide by the number of gallons of fuel used.
One tank, or even 20 minutes of driving and watching the instant gauge will not give you the complete story.
You can make the instant gauge read 6 or 76
Which one is right?
They both are......... at that instant they were giving that reading. But that does not mean your going to get that fuel mileage for the full tank.
I bought a K&N filter for my modified '92 for about $75.
After 1000 miles, I gave it to my neighbor free of charge and went back to a paper filter.
I'm hoping the $75 loss will teach me a lesson so I will not believe the garbage out there.

My 92, came with a cut air lid and K&N filter. It got dirty, replaced it with a stock replacement. No difference in any thing. Even bought a "recharge kit" to clean it, might do it this winter and put it back in.
For now it breathes just fine with the paper filter.
I think the key is to keep em clean and change them at least once a year.

5-8 HP for a FILTER?!!
That's rich. The filter will add NOTHING, or perhaps 1 HP.

Every little thing you add to your car will help, most of the time you are replacing a 20 year old part, anything is better than that old thing. Even if you bring your vette back to like new performance it is worth it. But your K&N is in there and you know it is there and it is suppose to be better, in your head you will at least think it is faster with it installed.
I think you will get a gain just my amateur opinion. God speed little vette, God speed.
