Default Bad Booster?

Ok I went to drive to work today and as soon as I pulled out I noticed the brakes felt like I had no boost what so ever. I have never had any indication and it stopped fine the last time I parked it. I went through all the modes in Diagnostic mode and no codes but I did do the clear procedure for mode 9 just to be on the safe side with no effect. I really cant find anything in the Helms book as far as testing the booster but since i still have the same vacuum as always (about 13 PSI) I feel it has to be the booster but I just want a second opinion before I spend the time and money since brake boosters are not something I have a lot of experience with. .

When you put on the brakes, listen very closely for a hissing noise. I have replaced 2 in the last 2 years, and I heard a hissing noise yesterday. Check all of your vacumm connections and avoid the Autozone Cardone brand. They are crap. If you can adapt a metal booster vacumm booster, do it. That's what I am going to attempt to do. If you have an LT1, they are a PITA to do. Normally, I get by fine with 12 vacumm.

yup... if it isn't the booster, I would check the check valve.

I found Prior makes a metal booster for the LT1 cars I will probably call them tomorrow to make sure it is a direct replacment

Has anyone here ever tried this Prior brand booster? The price is cheaper than the plastic Cardone. I wonder about the quality.

Never tried those, but I will never buy one of the rebuilt ones listed again. I pruchased a metal one from Ecklers, it works well.

If you could ever avoid buying anything rebuilt, do so. They're often rebuilt in Mexico and they are all crapola.

No after I called and stock checked it then placed my order they send me this three days later "We regret to inform you that at the present time we are out of stock on the product(s) you ordered and have issued you a refund. "
So I had to get one local and the only one available was the cardone, luckily it seems to work fine, I will tell you this I wanted to take a trip to KY and kick the ME who located the booster square in the nuts. I had to use an air ratchet with a long extension and a swivel just to get the two bolts out not to mention removing the ASR, cruise control and support bracket just to get the darn thing out. Good news is I was able to complete the job in about 2HRS even with all the ranting.

hard pedal = bad boster or "defective" vacuum connection or brake booster check valve.

soft pedal = defective m/c.

A new check valve seems to have solved my booster problem.
