Hi I've recently fitted a five speed TKO 600 gearbox to replace the 4x3 manual setup. It ran well to start with but the idle speed refuses to stay at 700 to 800 rpm as it did before it now varies between 900 and 1200 When you start the car warm without touching the throttle the idle is perfect and steady, soon as you give it some throttle the idle speed won't come back down. I've checked for vacum leaks, the I.A.C system, P.C.V valve. Anybody got any ideas and I mean any I've run out of ideas !!
Since it will idle down, it isn't the common vacuum leak problem. Unless you got really rough and messed up removing the TV cable, this isn't related to the trans swap. It is some outside interference. My money is on the TBs. Actually it isn't the worn shafts. It is the shafts that wear the shaft bore in the pot metal TB casting, that causes the slop and misalignment. The stock TBs are not bushed. The shafts twist in the soft pot metal. After you verify that this is the problem, you can have the TB bodies bushed and reamed or replace the TBs.
considering it idles fine before you hit the gass pedal try checking to make sure the throttle cable isnt getting hung up somehow causing your throttle to stay open a tad. the previous ideas are deffinately possabilities but it cant hurt to check out that cable and connections before ya spend $ on it.

Amen! That is why I said "After you verify that this is the problem...". As always, trouble shoot until you are sure of the cause of a problem, then fix it. Don't throw money at it.
