Does the HSR makes any difference in performance on an otherwise
stock engine?
Carl Johansson installed an HSR on an '88 he used for HPDE, El Mirage
and Bonneville events. Aside from modifications to redirect exhaust
from the stock manifolds to exit aft of the front wheels, the engine
was otherwise essentially stock.

Esthetics were secondary to functionality, so Carl made an opening
in the hood and an associate fabricated a simple closure from sheet
aluminum once the dimensions were established.

In addition to the stock HSR, a small cap distributer and an external
coil is required. The Holley fuel rail can be adapted to the OEM fuel
lines with short pieces of SS hose and fittings. 24# FORD Motorsports
injectors are a reasonable starting point. The '88 Cold Start
Injector is discarded. The OEM throttle body can be reused or a
52mm can replace it. A TPiS MiniRam thermostat housing simplifies
coolant routing. Tuning should be considered essential.

The HSR will enable the '88 L98 to rev beyond the capability of the
stock rods/rod bolts. Discretion or improvements to the rotating
assembly are recommended.

For considerably more insight, spend some effort and time to become
proficient with this invaluable resource.
It will assist you in discovering
more about grumpyvette's custom plenum, SloRvette's HSR, JoBy's
chopped & channeled HSR, LD85's modified stock HSR plenum and
Carl Johansson's HSR experiences last spring and summer.
