Default How to adjust TPS sensor

My check engine light was on so I tested it and I replaced the TPS sensor. The light went out, and runs great now. Why do some people adjust it? Isn't it set from the factory? Or do you have to adjust them all? And how do you adjust it?

Depends. Are we talking about the '85 here?

If so - Yes, it must be adjusted, when you bolt it on there, to show a particular voltage (What exact voltage depends on what you are trying to do, the Factory setting would be .54) on a scan tool (or however else you choose to measure it) at idle. If you just slap it on there you have no idea what the voltage actually will be, and it's a relatively important input for the ECM.

Newer years (I'm not sure when it started - LT4 motors, maybe) do NOT have any provision for TPS adjustment, not mechanically anyhow.

Your meter needs to be testing the 2 top wires on TPS. Shooting for .54 vdc +/- .075 vdc.

If this is about your 84, I can't comment.

I slip a brad nail along each wire and into connector. Put my meter leads onto to the nails (paper clips etc) and adjust the TPS till I get .54VDC.

90 and up the ecm resets from input to get ''0'' % throttle as long as voltage is .3-.9 vdc, MIL with be set if outside .3-.9v.
