This is on my '93 LT1. It will run for a few minutes, then just die. Scanning showed a code 42, "electronic timing circuit grounded". I got a headache trying to find an answer in the FSM. The very generic Haynes manual sort of insinuated that it had something to do with the coil. I plugged in a spare coil and it still wouldn't start. I did a Forum search and both a bad ignition control module and a bad ECM were mentioned. Any suggestions??
Check to see if you're getting voltage to the coil. If you want to pm me with a fax # I can send you a diagnostic flow chart. I don't know how to attach it to a pm.
Picked up an ignition control module, then when installing it, I promptly dropped one of the screws and it disappeared into the vortex where screws always seem to disappear. Wouldn't happen to know the correct screw I need would you?
Yes, I fixed it. It was the ignition control module. I haven't been able to get the new on screwed in. I just plugged it in and car runs better than it has in a long time. Anybody see a problem with not actually mounting it and just using a twist tie to hold it in place (temporarly)?
Hello,
I have a 93 LT1 and have replaced that part myself. It really needs to be mounted correctly (Both Screws) and tight with the heat sink compound. It contains electronics that are kept cool by the finned bracket. You also don't want the heat sink compound on very thick. A very thin coverage between Ig module and mount.
