I Googled my butt off but couldn't find 0-60, 1/4 mile and top speed of a 1996 LT1 with auto trans. Any sources you guys know of? I just bought one. I took it in on trade at the dealership I work at. She only has 16,700 miles. I had to scoop that one up! They traded it in on a Lincoln Town Car of all things. Now that's a trade off!
The LT1 auto has been tested in the magazines at about mid 5's 0-60 and high 13's to low 14's in the quarter. I did see one article that put an auto LT1 at a top speed of 172 mph....
From what i've seen em do at the track they usually hit mid 13s at 103mph. Check the RPO codes to see what rear gear you have. Hopefull you'll see the G92 or G44 for 3.07s
I for one would be very surprised to see it run in the 14s unless you're at 5000' elevation.
Mine's a 94 LT1/A4 w/ 3.07 rear. (106,000mi) It has the same ratings as your 96.
All stock, it was just dynoed at 270.9 hp & 306.1 ft. lb. tq. Top speed during the dyno showed 144mph @ 6000rpm. (redline is 5700) Although, I don't know if that was in 3rd or 4th gear.
I ran a best of 13.75@101mph this summer on a warm day.(90* +)
I don't rember the 0-60 time, but my 60' was 1.9sec.
Thanks for the stats! According to the build sticker my car has the G92 and G44 options. I guess that is good huh? Looks like it also has the hd alternator and a J55 option which according to a code guide I found online the car also has the J55 which is listed as high performance brakes. Funny the stuff you can find out! Looks like pretty much a base car with top of the line stereo and some performance stuff.
I probably won't keep the car long. I'll probably sell it in June or July. I'd hate to mile it up. Plus it rides a lot rougher than the 05 I had a couple of years ago. I bought this car kind of on a whim because of the miles, condition(16000 miles) and price I took it in on trade for. I forgot that these things ride like a slot car...hahaha. I actually had this series before. I had a 1989, 1992 ZR1and then a 94 LT1. After I bought the ZR1 I found out how much they cost to fix so I dumped that one. One thing I do like about these cars is how much fun it is to hang the tail out and dance it down the street. I really don't have the heart to do that to this one considering its age and how it was babied by its last two owners.
What is funny is that it seems to me my 1989 was a hotter car. Maybe that is just memory playing tricks on me.
One thing I do notice on this 1996 is an oil smell. I looked all over the car but cant see a leak anywhere and its not leaking on my garage floor but there is a rather pungent odor. Hope its just the smell of an old car being driven. With my luck it isn't.
I've had my '96 for 5 years now and have rolled about 40,000 up on the dial. It's been the most reliable vehicle in my history. It's just an auto 3.07 but will fill the need for speed. I too had an earlier vette that inspired this purchase. This one will never live up to the one before, almost no car could ('63 vert) but the heater, brakes and wipers work, it purrs like a kitten and hauls azz way faster than than the law allows.
I doubt the last C4 will become a collector for MANY years, but it's a great model that ushered the current generations and might have saved the lineage from extinction in '84. With a little modification you can go broke on smoking rear tires while enjoying the stereo and AC. Push the crazy switch (ASR OFF) and go back to the 70s.
Congratulions on the car. Owning any Corvette puts you in a different world from the rest.
