93 Ruby AT problem any ideas?
My Dad has a 1993 Ruby C4 Convertible, and it has a strange auto transmission issue. When running in standard drive mode it shifts and works perfectly no problems. If you are in 1-2-3 though, it can shift fine, but when you take your foot off the gas the RPM drops to idle. When you put your foot back on the gas you have to get the RPM back up to match your speed and then it "catches". I read in the FAQ that the transmission converter was purely mechanical until the 94 model year, when it switched to the electronically assisted type. So it therefore has us stumped. We have also asked several mechanics but no one seems to have ever heard of such a thing, even the GM dealer.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it. This car only has 45k on it, and we just got new paint, and finally an ECM that works, as well as new speaker amps and weatherstrip.. oh and a new top too! Just this last thing to fix and my Dad can drive it without getting annoyed!

But first, check your fluid, make sure it is red and doesn't smell burnt in any way. Change filter, and fluid for a cheap check.
Just MHO
The bad news is a complete disassembly of the trans is needed, thus an overhaul is in the cards.
Thanks again for the info
