Hi,
I'm new to this section but not completely new to programming F/I. I have a '73 with Accel Gen I that I have played with some.
I am wondering if there is an inexpensive software package that allows me to just read the DTC codes and watch the sensor outputs in realtime (as the motor runs) using a laptop?
I have checked out lt1-edit /obdII and ease. These seem like a lot of money for the casual user.

The only other solution for programming is JETs Dynamic Spectrum Tuner. Its about the same price as LT1 Edirt. The JET tuner was TunerCat which sold the selling rights to JET. You can also check AutoTap for another Scan Tool. Or you can convert your OBD2 PCM to a OBD1 PCM by just swapping it out with a 94/95 Corvette of F body PCM. Either the 16188051 or a 16181333 PCM will work programmed with a 95 calibration. But you may have a SYS warning if the CCM will not communicate with the earlier PCM, however the engine will run fine with this conversion. Then you can use the old OBD1 TunerCat along with a programming/scanning cable from AKM Cables. You can then download TTS PowerSystems DataMaster to scan with. Total cost of software, cable, is about $300 if you pay for the scan software as well.

I'm not OBD2 so I don't know the names of the software, but I do know that there are free/cheap options out there.
A quick google search turned up these, for instance:

Exact setup on my 96' - I have a 96 CCM but 95 PCM and it runs fine, I do get the SYS warning.
If you want to really get into the tuning side you need to do what tjwong says here.
