I'm attempting to repair my drooping door panels and drivers window that is out of alignment and rolls up to far. I downloaded a tutorial from a forum member on repairing the window. For the door panel I may use some zip ties and 1" x 1/2" L-brackets.
It appears that my window stop is broke. What is the best place to find one of these? I need it by the weekend. Where can I get a retainer nut removal tool quickly? Can it be done without this tool? I may also need the stopper L-bracket. How do I determine if mine is bad? Is there anything else I should replace or check while I'm in there?
This picture is looking down in the door from the top. Stop Guide looks broke.?
Where in this picture is the L-bracket located?
I have not started working on the broken door panel yet. I want to get the window working correctly first. I left the panel off for the next few days for easy access.
Thanks

Anyone know where I can get the parts/tool from above? I really want to get this all done while I have time off from work. Also, would now be a good time to replace my convertible top weather stripping? I've had it in the box for some time. Would it be better to install when I can easily adjust the windows or is that messing with too much at one time?
If you go to MAM website (not their catalog), they have all sorts of little replacement pieces for the window and door. I ordered a bunch of little guides and other pieces pretty cheap.

I don't see it on the Forum Store, MidAmerica, or Zip.
I don't know what that piece is, but I don't think that it's a window stop. I would have to take my door apart to figure out what those brackets are for. I didn't have any anti-rattle clips when I did my driver's side door, but I plan on using them when I eventually do the passenger's side. You may just have to remove the door panel and see how it's set up. Your local Chevy dealer may be able to get the parts you need. Sorry I can't be more help - it's been a while.
This picture looks too familar, just did this job on my 93 coupe.
My suggestions:
1. Get a factory manual, Helm. $100 and worth it, or try ebay.
2. Inside of my door panel was cracked that fits over the top metal lip on the door. I epoxyed with fiberglass to repair crack. Next time I would use tie wraps too.
3. What is broken in your picture is the plastic guide that guides the window up and down following the guide rod. I would replace left and right while you are into this. You can order these cheap from GM parts direct, and others. I thought I saw the part number in another post here already. I was going to make a tool to tighten the special nut, but another post here (thanks!) said try using big snap rings pliers which worked ok. Not necessary to remove the glass to replace guide, carefully motor the widow up to allow access, maybe 1/2 way up.
4. Be sure to use torque wrench on making up the guide to glass window, 69 in lbs on the bolt.
5. I do not know how the L bracket works???
6. I would replace the outside weather strips while you have the door open. My were all cracked, which is a common problem.
7. The actual window stop, I think, is what is GM calls the window stabilizer guide. There are two hooks on this piece that stop the up window travel. This is a chunk of metal which I doubt is broken. The factory manual gives the adjustments to get the window travel right. If it is already working properly, you need to scribe the adjustment bolts to put back exactly as needed before disassembly.

Good luck and holler if needed!

I asked the Parts Dept for the window stop guide and L-bracket when I called the dealership. They said they discontinued making both. Maybe I called it the wrong thing. I will call back and ask for a plastic window guide.
GMPARTSDIRECT has no parts list for PN 49549 ??
Thanks for the info.

I purchased a front window stop last summer from my local Chevy dealer (1 mile away) for $12. They had to order it and I had it in a day or two. I used the tool that you use to changed discs on a grinder to get the window stop bolts loose. My problem was the front of the window went up too far and made the rear of the window hit on the convertable top.
Not sure what advise I can give on the door panel, I would have to take a look at it. I'm only about 1 hr drive from you, if you need any help.

Thanks for the offer. I need to get the part in before I can attempt the install.
Heres the door panel I am repairing. I used zip ties for now but It will probably need some two part epoxy also.
I started working on the door fix. I'm guessing the L-Brackets go on in this position. Did anyone file down the bump from the window felt piece? Maybe use some washers on the bolts? The bump prevents a tight fit. See arrow.

I finished the window repair and the drivers door fix this past weekend. Thanks for all the help. It was pretty easy once I went at it. I have a ton of pics maybe I can do a new write up later. Here's some.
Door insides.
Broken Guide.
Here's a look at the back using a mirror.
First attempt at removing. The Snap ring pliers did not hold it well enough. There was lock tight on the screw threads that were holding it in there too tight.
Vise grips worked perfectly though.
Old guide removed. Next to the new guide.
Back on and working perfectly.

There is much good information in you post--especially the photos and your annotations. I hope you can generate a sticky "how-to" either here or in the Tech Tips section.

I don't even know if that gets updated anymore since the big takeover.
Speaking of which, the tech tip section is pretty poor right now and needs a complete overhaul. High-res pictures, actual separation of text into paragraphs, and most importantly, better community involvement in what's in there. But I doubt any such grand improvements to formatting, there or elsewhere, will be happening anytime soon, since the only changes I've seen since the takeover have been flashing and distracting ads placed with zero regard to the site's intended formatting. So perhaps one of our members would be generous enough to host a wiki for these new tech tips that have been springing up.
