'94, Convert. I did a search and came up empty handed, so let me ask this question.
Parked my vet at work yesterday and it was raining cat and dogs. Went to leave and found a big puddle of water in my driver's side floorboard. I have new window and door weatherstriping coming and will be replacing the outer strip on top of the door, that runs up against the glass.
Funny thing is I could not feel any wet areas exept the floorboard, so it does not apear to be dripping down from somwhere. I did the modification to drain the water out of the driver's side hood bracket and routed the water to infront of the battery.
This seems to happened sporadicly, because it has happened when I washed my car, but not every time.
Yes, but like you I can only speculate where the water is coming from. I ended up replacing the carpet because apparently it had been wet since before I bought the car. Probably should have figure out what the problem was before doing so.
Yes, I know, this is no help to you, but you did ask a pretty basic question.
Check the valley that runs in front of the windshield and butts against the firewall. See if the chaulk has broken down or has any splits. It should be directing water flow to each side.
there is a rubber tube that is split at the bottom and drains the windshield fresh air area on each side. Check it for leaves and debris. If they are plugged up, the water doesn't drain, and it goes in the car.
It should be visible behind the battery in the door hinge area. check both sides.
Next time it rains check the carpet behind the seat. If the weatherstripping is bad in a convertible water will run down the back to the floor and may dry up in that area before you are able to notice it. The water will sit on the floor a lot longer or until it is vacuumed.

Actually, when I recharged the battery I noticed this tube and it was full of debris. I cleaned it out, but you say there should be another one on the other side as well?
Yep there's one on the passenger side way over in the corner. Sometimes it's easier to take the Torx bolts out remove the screened cover and see if ya can get an air hose adapter that has a 90 degree bend on it and stick it in the drain hole and blow out all the crud then flush it with water. That usually cleans em out. Pipe
There are a lot of those hoses in the car, they are all easy to miss even if you know your car very well, and they are all probably plugged up with dirt if you haven't found them yet.
Aside from those, rather than replacing the weatherstrip around the window, most often the alignment of the window itself is to blame. There are several fasteners inside the door that can be moved around slightly to get the window to press firmly against the weatherstrip. If your weatherstrip looks horrible go ahead and replace it anyway, but if not it's probably just not aligned.

Right on Coupeguy. Both drains on the driver's side were plugged. Cleaned them out so we will see next time it rains or I wash my car.
I could not get to the passanger side drain. I assume that the drain is under the plate that has two screw in it rather than the screen area. The back screw rises up and hits the edge of the windshield before it is removable and I did not want to break the windshield. I am off to the repair manual to see how that side is diagramed.

Thanks again.
Why not have someone hose down the outside while you sit in it and try to locate the leak. If you feel the carpet all around the floor board you should be able to locate it.

I would rather assume that the problem is fixed; but if not after a rain storm, work on the problem again. Other wise problem solved. Next.
