Having a problem sometimes lowering the antenna. I aware of the process of replacing the GM mast with the special socket and all. Motor is OK. Called Ecklers to price the mast since I can pick it up and they told me 2 different antenna units were used on that car. One with the GM replaceable mast unit, and one not.
Well, I have the one with the rubber boot around the body of the motor assembly which indicates its not the GM antenna unit where you can replace the mast from the top of the car.
So my question is, has anyone had experience with this antenna type, and is the mast replaceable if the unit is dis-assembled. I guess if the mast is not replaceable, I will end up replacing the entire unit.
I have the after market one and it is less hassle to replace it with a new one ,it's not that expensive for the one I have. You still have to get in their and take the bolt lose on the mast on the after market to replace the mast but I just replaced the whole thing. If the mast is bad usually the tape ie plastic center piece, they use in the aftermarket ones is starting to go also.
So now I have talked with another dealership in my area. He requested my VIN number and ran it and said it did have a replaceable mast for that antenna.
Never actually have done the job, I look down at the antenna and see a rubber boot or grommet. Thought the nut might be under that so I tried to remove the grommet. Not coming out so easy I backed off.
Question is, is the nut under the grummet and does it have to come out to see the nut assembly. Because in the FSM, it does not mention or show the rubber grommet. It shows the nut to be plainly visible. Need first hand information.
