I replaced my power steering pump and now I am having a hard time getting the high pressure line to seal. The power steering fluid starts leaking out the screw next to the line. I used the o-ring provided and have replaced it once to make sure.
Is it:
a) A bad high pressure line.
b) Did not tighten the line hard enough. I am also scared to tighten things to much. I used to watch my Dad break a lot of parts do it.
c) Something wrong at the power steering pump.
I need to get this on the road today or tomorrow. I miss my vette, so please help!
I just chased down a leak on my power steering cooler, so I know how frustrating these things can be to find. Eliminate number B. I would clean everything very thouroughly with brake cleaner, jack it up and try to get a good vantage point with excellent lighting and have somebody fire it up. Watch out for moving parts. When you say its leaking out of the screw next to the line, is that a pressurized screw on the pump? The lines are pretty robust.
I will try and tighten it down. And yes it is leaking at the screw that tightens the pressure line to the power steering pump. And it leaks really well.
I am battling the same problem. The power steering fluid is getting around the "O" ring and coming out between the tubing and the nut. If you buy a new hose and it has 3 "O" rings in the pack, put 2 of them on the end that connects to the pump. Two are the same and 1 is a little smaller, put one of each and see if that works. There has to be a better way to fix this problem.
Just to finish out the thread. It turned out to be a crack in the pressure line just like the picture above suggested. I had an issue getting the high pressure line off the rack side of it, so I got it to my mechanic and he had it fixed in an hour.
