I'm thinking about renting the DIACOM engine analysis software package from TPIS. Anyone have any experience with this software? Is it worth the $50 weekly rental?
I have the AutoXray and find it quite useful for diagnostics and tuning. However I also have several books on TPI that explain ECM operation. Without such knowledge it would not be very useful on your '89.
If you have the knowledge and a particular goal (I assume you have) then a week might be enough time.
There are 2 different Diacom versions. I have the base version which meets my needs quite well. It reads all of the sensors and displays the info in real time. You can also take a "snap shot" of the data and save it for graphing. You would need to use a laptop to do any recording of "runs" (I am using an old 386 laptop and it works just fine). The more costly version has built in graphing capabilies. You can take the files from the base version and use Excel to do the same type of graphs. After the first week of rental, I think you would be better off buying the software from Diacom directly (if it meets your requirements). I just wish they would come out with an OBD II version for the 95 & up Vettes & other GM vehicles.
I have Diacom, use it weekly, love it, and need it to burn chips...but their customer service SUCKS. I have never had an email replied to after multiple attempts. They have quirks that need to be answered, such as why it will not display timing advance on '85's but have places for it. -Matt-
First of all, I´m not a pirat or nothing similar, but I need to make the question ?
If you rent the software, can you make a copy ?, or is protected.
This is a great tuning tool !, I want it !, but 500 is not cheap, Is a lot cheaper than the scanner !
I have printed, how can make the cable connector.
If somebody already do this, please send me an e-mail, I´m very interested !
And forgive me those persons that don´t feel good with this
But with this tool and a chip burner, I probably make wonders with modifies in my engine !
Re: Anyone use DIACOM software? (Eduardo L98 1991)
you need specific cables  You can't get them anywhere but from Rhinda(diacom) There was a post a while back about reverse engineering the cables but it died, so I doubt if you can. There are better prices around. Also I would buy the base program and have someone e-mail you the "plus" files. :D
The software is easily copied.... the cable is not so easily duplicated.
I have tried at least three different schematics found on the internet for this cable. None of them worked. I tried for months to get a working cable but never did.
I finally broke down and purchased a copy from a local F-Body guy that was selling his. I got a great deal too. Diacom Plus with a laptop for $200!!!! All cables, registration that was never filled out.... it is nice. I feel much better with a legal copy of the program/hardware now, too.
I agree, $500 is alot of money. If you use the program alot, and use it on many cars, then it's not as bad.
I use TTS datamaster with an AKM cable. The AKM cable comes with the demo version of TTS, and registration is $99. The downside to TTS is that it's a windows program, so it requires a slightly better laptop to run. The other option is to buy an AKM cable and use Craig Moates' free software. The AKM cable can be purchased at http://www.akmcables.com. There's also a link to Craig's site to download his free software.
I'm useing Craig's software on my 90. It works. Got a cabel kit from Steve Ruse and built it myself. I'm useing a compaq lite. I would only run in dos not windows.

what version of Craigs software are you using . I thought that the 90 vette is a 730? when i use Craigs software ecm845 version i can not get it to link up. the data just keeps running with his ecm84 softwarei can get it to link up but i cant select 2 and read the data in the tables
thanks John
I'm using the latest version of his software. The '90 uses a '727 ecm, which is essentially a weatherproof '730. The code is the same. You say the data just keeps running, make sure that it's not in test mode and that all of the initial parameters are set. Are you using an AKM cable?
