I get in the garage and hear the fans running... temp says 145.... next day no SES light but my mechanic runs the code and it says knock sensor.... what the heck is goin' on ???

The rain may have exposed a bad plug wire, and the misfires were triggering the knock sensor.

If the SES light was set and then went off after the next short trip, this code may not show up on the scanner. Your mechanic might have read the last "hard" code. I am guessing the real culprit was "random multiple misfires," which will reset itself after another drive cycle. This is not uncommon for certain weather conditions.
