Default Dyno help needed

I had my car dynoed last week. What's the usual procedure for dynoing a car? The guy put my car on a hoist, removed my O2 sensor and used his diagnostic O2 sensor. He put it on the dyno, ran it and plugged my old O2 sensor back in before I left. On the way home the check engine light came on. I stopped the engine for 15 seconds and restarted. The light went away. I drove for 10 minutes and it came back on.

I can drive it around town and the light won't come on, but as soon as I take it up to speed on the hwy, it will come on. My mechanic suggested unplugging the battery for 10 minutes and trying it. The light still comes on. He plugged his diagnostic tool in and the O2 sensor read "OFF" on his tool , and he said it usually bounces around and the rich/lean lights usually go on and off.

Did the dyno guy screw up my O2 sensor somehow?

Should I have asked my mechanic for a specific code number? The reading on his diagnostic tool said O2 sensor fault. What more should I ask my mechanic?

No problems before this? It sure sounds like a bad connection/didn't plug it back in completely.

No problems before this, and only problems when I get car up to speed (100-120 kmh) (60-75 mph). I was thinking about the bad connection or didn't plug it back in completely, but wouldn't this send a check engine light all the time? When I went to the mechanics today it was dark and slightly raining, so he didn't crawl under neath it, he just brought his diagnostic tool outside and checked it.

THanks, I'll have him check the connection

And could you give us what code it sets?

I never looked closely at what code it was numberwise. It just said O2 sensor fault. I could ask my mechanic. He did say "Well, it looks like you need another O2 sensor"

He may have broken a wire going to the O2 sensor. They can get brittle with age and heat. That happened to mine when I had long tubes installed.
At any rate, he should fix it for you.

Agree completely. Looks like removing/replacing the sensor broke the sensor or wire. But, don't necessarily blame it on the dyno operator. If it's old, you probably should replace it anyway. Hold on to your wallet - they run about $100 each. :(

Holy Crap! What type of O2 sensors do you buy? I can get a pair for $40, the newer 4 wire styles are around $50 each. I've never heard of a $100 O2 sensor, must be a good one!!

That's odd about the 02 sensor anyway, when I ran my car open headers for a while I only had 1 o2 sensor connected, it ran like a dream and never set a code. It might do differently if they were both gone, but that sure is strange. I take it your car only has 1 sensor.

My wife's VW has two sensors at $97 each...I like corvettes even if they do have four...:)

My dyno fella just used a wand stuck in the tail pipe to do the measuring-is this common to remove an O2 sensor-heck our local shop doesn't even have a hoist and doubt he gets on the floor to do this???
