Default car is overheating

or maybe it is not overheating?

what is the fan supposed to turn on at what temp?

it is a 95 base vette and it will get to 228 F before the fans turn on. they turn off at 213 F
the fan also spins kinda slow, it dont kick on and blow hard like other cars I have had. most turn on at 220 and off at 200. I thought it was kinda high for a temp being that is has a 180 thermostat? is something kooky with my car or is this normal?

ok, I guess I should do a search first

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...n+temp+turn+on

but anyways, my ambiant temp here is 55 degrees.
only my primary turns on at 228, secondary never came on.
I guess if worse comes to worse, I will just wire it up for a manual override and I was going to get it tuned this summer anyways. I guess I can have it set up then for the on/off temps.

I was just getting gun shy due to I have not had a car get that hot before.

Isn't that frightening That's one of the ways GM got round the emissions to run'em hot. Thermostat has nothing to do with operating temps just how quick or slow it gets there. Turn on the A/C and see what happens with the fans. And yes anyone can reprogram fan cycling temps with the right equipment.

My fans dont come on until 232* and shut off at 213*. That only happens when i'm sitting still though. If i'm driving down the highway the temp is usually around 190-200.

The fans on your 95 come on at 226* & 235*.

They have 2 speeds ( lo & Hi) & run in concert, that's why you think they are running slow initially.

With a/c on they should run "Hi".

According to the FSM everything seems normal.

Sounds normal.

I spent about 45 minutes observing the coolant temperature operation range on my stock (never modified) 95 LT1 with 50,000 miles. I started the engine and let the temp rise. All of the info is while at idle and the outside temp 80*. Idle temp reached 228* before both fans came on and never saw the temp past 230* via digital guage. Analog guage was in the hash marks and showed approx. 250* from guessing, 260* being the highest number which is miss leading. The temp dropped to 217* and both fans cut off. With the A/C on the temps sat around 201-205* and never got lower or higher. This I consider normal at idle and when driving at about 55 mph the digital temp guage stays around 185-190* range

The temps sound normal. You might also want to check the air intake (in front of the radiator for debris. Simple Green also does a great job of removing road grime from the radiator.

when I bought my 94, I purchased it from a guy way up in the mountains and had 20 mles of very freaky driving to get used to the 6 speed.
Well i got the main highway back to lasvegas ran cool as can be until we had a 8 car pileup where viability was O because of extreme winds 60+ going across the desert. Standing still temp went up fast a found out the fans don't come on until near melt down.
I purchase a PCM from PCMFORLESS with a mild performance tune and have the fans come on at 210. Nice.
