Default possible electrical problem: '85 wont start

Well, I was nearly done installing my head unit, when I started putting the car back together. I wanted to start the car with the instrument panel back on, to test that I got the right wire for the VSS. It would not start.

I removed the cluster, and it would start. Then it wouldn't. I think it's an electrical problem. I checked my manual (Haynes...don't have an FSM yet, please don't kill me!), and I can't find the wire that goes to the distributer, nor the fuse supposedly labled "GA-Trans," which should be 20 amps. I checked every fuse anyway.

I think I blew a fuse, but I checked everywhere. The reason I think I blew a fuse, or even a relay, is because my rear hatch wont open now either. But both hatch fuses are in tact, though. Also, when I turn the key, I get nothing. No clicking, no roll over, nothing. So I think it's electrical, since I lost the rear hatch too.

I tried jumping the car already, too, just incase. Even though I have a battery tender hooked up.

Is there another fuse somewhere, or a relay that I'm overlooking? I would greatly appreciate it, I really want to test this navigation head unit out!

What do you mean, "it wouldn't start"? Do you mean the starter motor cranks the engine but the engine won't catch and run? Or do you mean that the starter motor will not crank the engine?

I think what said was no roll over,I guess that means it won't even crank over. That shouldn't be a fuse, fusible link maybe. My bet, ignition switch wiring, must have got messed something up when you were in the rats nest of wire, loose connection somewhere. It can be frustrating.Retrace what you did, check for power to the switch. At this point I hope you have a FSM wiring diagram, and alot of patience.

Make sure your ground wire is securely attached. A faulty or ground wire not attached will play havoc with electrical devices.

Yeah, though I only took the positive lead off the battery when I was doing all of that. I made sure it was securely fastened back on. I really don't know what I've done, because all I've done was pull the old head unit out, remove the dash (trying to find the VSS), and remove the center console panel. I still don't think I did anything to the ignition system, but I must have. I did have intermittent problems with the ignition when I was putting the instrument panel back in, but now I have nothing.

And it's kind of baffling that at the same time, the rear hatch button wont release the hatch either.

This might help you with the hatch problem.
