i just bought a 96 LT1 automatic a couple months ago, and shifting gears has been somewhat "unsmooth"....like as if i'm shifting the gears of some old large farm tractor.... no odd sounds or vibrations come from it.....it just shifts rough..... is this bad? should i have it looked at?
and btw i don't know much about transmissions / engines.
no, their is no jerking of car when shifting....no jerking anywhere....
there are no remarkable sounds to describe....only thing that seems weird is the feeling of it when shifting....
feels rough....like during the shift...i can feel the very tiny vibrations that come from 2 metal surfaces scraping eachother....and i can feel the 'notches' where each gear is....sometimes i get stuck in between notches, and i don't want to tempt fate and force the gear shift anymore, so i pull the gear shift lever back all the way, and then push it forward again, and that works fine...it doesn't get stuck again.
does corvette just have rudimentary gear shift mechanisms?...why do other vehicles shift gears with ease and mine no?
oh, I misunderstood what you were asking. You are saying the shifter is rough to move it?
on my 95 auto, it is easy to move the lever. I can feel a notch for each thing (r, n, d, etc.) but it doesn't stick and is very easy to move. That does not sound normal. I would poke around. Hopefully maybe something just needs some grease. There is not much to it in the console area. Basically the lever just pulls and pushes a cable that goes to the trans. I have a picture of the shifter somewhere on my pc. I'll see if I can find it.
