Okay guys. If someone has an ECM for a 93 6spd that they would be willing to loan me to swap mine out that would be awesome.
I have an intermittent problem that does not throw codes and having trouble finding. Once my car gets to normal temp it just cuts out and dies. Some times it will start back up and sometimes I have to wait for it to cool down.
I have checked the fuel system, injectors etc.
I have changed the ICM and Coil (both new) along with connectors, the connector to the ICM was bad.
Checked all grounds and ECM connectors and sensor connectors.
I suspect the ECM to be the problem but before I send it in to get rebuilt I sure would like to know for sure. I know they are hard to come by.
My ECM #16159278
If anyone can help me out with a loaner for a tester it would be much appreciated.
I think you'll have better luck asking someone to put your ECM on their car...there's a chance you can damage someone else's ECM if there is a wiring problem in your vehicle. But your ECM should run fine on another car.
The computer is the same for '92/93 vettes and Camaro/Firebirds. You will probably have an easier time finding an F-body, they're more common.
I have a '93 and use the same computer but it's a race car, I'd be happy to try your ECM but I'd have to put my chip in it and I'm not sure if that would really tell you much...
I sent mine to Alvin at PCMforless and he tested it for me, but I had one of his tunes in it.
I am having the same EXACT problem with my 92, auto... Runs great until warm.. After about three cycles of the fans coming on at 227 and turning off at 216 the engine just dies... Fuel pressure at 41... ICM (AC/Delco) coil, wires (MSD) plugs, and opti all replaced in the last two years (8000 miles ago)... One thing I have noticed is the "service engine soon" light has quit working... I borrowed an OTC 4000e to see if any codes (this weekend project) and try to replace the SES bulb... I will be in the San Antonio area soon and can bring my ECM if you would like to try, but I may have the same problem you have...
That ecm is one of the most difficult to find since is was only manufactured for the 93. It was a nightmare to get a replacement for mine when I had a coolant temperature sensor error, turned out the ecm was bad and needed replacement.....took 2 week just to find it.
OK, pulled codes, had a 16 with a history code of 74... Cleared codes..
Crazy as this might sound, but while running the temp up, I noticed a little steam coming from around the radiator cap... Replaced the cap and now I can't make the problem of cutting out come back... I know the problem can't be this easy to fix!!! But I just drove it to Galveston, Houston (traffic nightmare) and back home... NO PROBLEM, NO CODES
Any explanations?? Also, anyone know an easy way to get to the bulb on the SES light???
