Default Oops! Wrong Fluid!??

Okay, go on and call me some names! I deserve it! I feel like a total
IDIOT! While filling the POWER STEERING RESERVOIR, I accidently
filled it with my Valvoline SynPower Brake/Clutch Fluid . Are there
serious consequences? Should I drain it and add the recommended fluid? Is there a drain plug on the power steering reservoir if I need
to get that fluid out?

Default Get it OUT of there!

Yes, drain it out. Brake fluid will make all the seals swell up and get soft. It used to be an old mechanics trick to stop a small pump seal leak, to put about a tablespoon or two of brake fluid in the p/s fluid. You don't want to top one off with it though. If you haven't had it in there long you probably haven't hurt it, but you need to drain it out and run clean fluid back in. P/S fluid is cheaper than replacing all those seals so I would drain & replace it again after a couple of days just to make sure you rinse it all out. If you had a small leak to begin with, you might have even fixed it, so it isn't all bad.
I drained mine by pulling off one of the rubber lines on the cooler. Then with the engine OFF and the car jacked up in front, turn the stearing wheel left & Rt. a few times and it should spit all the fluid out. I reconnect the lines and fill the resorvoir and turn the steering wheel left & Rt. a few more times and it burps the air out so you can add a little more fluid. Turn the wheel left & Rt. a few more times and check the level. Then start it up and turn it again (sounds boring by now doesn't it.) You should have fresh fluid in everything now and be good to go.

Don't crank the motor! Take the hoses loose from the res. and drain it completely. Flush it out good with a mild solvent or at least clean power steering fluid. Hook up the hoses fill it with clean fluid and run the motor for just a minute. Drain again and repeat at least two to three times. Each time letting the motor run a few minutes longer each time.
Back in the day, when a tranny was leaking at the seals people used to add a couple of spoonfuls to the tranny fluid to 'swell' the seals. It usually worked ok. This is what it will do in your power steering system until it 'swells' the rubber and ruins the pump, rack and hoses.
I hope this helps, -John

Before you do anything. Test whether the two mix. In a glass, pour in some ATF and then add brake fluid. I'm afraid that they will mix, but it they don't, then the brake fluid will be lighter and will form a top level. If that happens, then you can add ATF to the reservoir and force the brake fluid out first -- The brake fluid will naturally be the first to overflow.

Let me know if it works. Note that I have my doubts but then I have never mixed the two .

They are both hydraulic fluids after all. Later! Frank

As others have said, get that fluid out asap. Clutch/brake fluid is extremely caustic and will destroy your ps seals if you leave it in. You need to get every drop out. Putting a little (or even a drop) of brake fluid on someone's car will eat the paint away. Not that I'd ever think about doing that to someone elses car. That's how acidic it is. I'd flush and fill at least 3X. If it were me, I'd do it 5X. Fluid is a heck of a lot cheaper than a new ps pump.
