Default Whoops, extra bolt

Well I put new injectors in my '89 L98 TPI corvette (6 speed if it matters) and I simply pulled the upper manifold, the egr valve and the fuel rails and injectors.

Put it back together, checked everything and it has been running fine for about a week.

Just the other day I found this in the laundry room.

I'm pretty sure its off the intake, but I can't remember where, and everything looks good!

It is almost 1 1/4," is not threaded the whole way and is a Torx head. I don't remember the size, but its smaller than the torx on the intake manifold runners, and not the smallest . (I vaugely recall using 3 sized bits to do the job, this was the middle size, maybe T20 or T25?)

Would anyone be so kind as to possibly guess where it goes? Fuel rail isn't leaking...

Thanks!!

I don't ever remember seeing a bolt like that come off my L98 albeit an '88. It has however been about 4 years since I had my stock TPI on the car.

Default screw

it's a body screw.
1.looks like one of the screws that holds the front spoiler on.
2. or the front spoiler separator in the middle,
3. or the screw that holds the battery cover (fender) on the side of the car
4. check your headlights for the cover screws
5. check your plastic rear fender wells
6. check your water reservoil hold down screws
7. check the upper fender well on the hood
8. check the screws that hold the power steering reservoir on.

I may be wrong here, not the first time but if yours is like my '87 on the drivers side fuel rail there's a pipe that comes out of the back of it and curls around to the cold start injector between the bases of the runners. It's held in by a torx and that baby could be it.

Doesnt sound like you had the runners off but if you did could it be one of the long Torx bolts that comes in from behind the intake to the runers? There is one on the DS rear and the PS front.

Don't remember seeing one like that when tearing into my plenum and runners.

Yep, you guys are right, now that I think about it theres nothing under the torx head (for runners) like the one in the pic. Maybe it is a body/spoiler bolt after all

Did you take the wheels off and remove the center section of the wheel well, looks like one from there.
Good Luck!

EGR pipes have about bolts that size.
Could also be a bolt of the fuel rail bracket in front of the engine next to the CTS.

This make me think it's not any sort of trim bolt. Not being threaded all the way means it's going THROUGH something about as thick as the unthreaded section.

Just my .02

Car has a C5 body kit on it (I didn't install, but hey.. ) so its not from the fender liners/body/spoiler etc, those are all hex-headed., no battery cover.

I will have some free time in the daylight tomorrow so I will check the headlights and the egr system, I vaguely recall this bolt, its too skinny for anything structural, might be a bracket retainer or fuel rail on the back?

I'll go over it with a fine tooth comb in the daylight, it is entirely possible its from something different, but this is the only project I have been working on when it the bolt showed up.

Thanks for all the ideas!
