I've read it's 430 lbs w/ shorty headers, but I've never actually weighed one.

I would say less than 30lbs a head. Probably closer to 25lbs each. I have a set right now that I am working on, and they are SUPER light. My brother replaced one iron head on his 1990 Chevy W/T 1500 truck which is a V6, and I think it weighed more than both my heads together. :D

An "Aluminum head L98" weight was guessed-at above.

An "L98 Aluminum head" is 19 lbs without valves or springs (per GM catalog).

That clear up any confusion?

Sorry, I meant the whole motor with heads. Forgot I was asking C4 guys. I called one shop they told me 450lbs for the whole thing, I think that sounds a bit low....

FWIW, here's what the Black book says:

"At 452 pounds, the 1992 LT1 outweighed the 1991 L98 base engine by twenty-one pounds, due partly to replacement of stainless steel exhaust manifolds with cast iron"

I guess that jives with the 430# figure above...

I've read that an LT5 (aluminum) long block out weighs the L98 by about 100lbs!

My car ways 3,052 lbs, so if you can figure out how much the chassis/body/transmission/rear end/suspension weighs, you'll know the weight of the engine. :) :D :p:
