I want to buy a exhuast, I am looking exhuast for my sisters vette. It is a 95 lt-1. I dont want to spend alot of money, but I dont want to buy junk. I dont want to speend 1100 $ on a cat back tri-flow system either. All i really care about is that it has nice tips and is LOUD!!!
I put muffler eliminators on both of mine. Bought them from Corvette Central. Put the LT1 tips on the coupe and double SS tips on the vert. Cost about $130, installed them myself and had a shop weld them for $40.00. Sound great and as good as any aftermarket exhaust I've heard. I actually like the verts sound a little better, it's only slightly different.
I got my muffler eliminators last week and I love them :D :D They sound so much deeper and meaner than the flowmasters I used to have. I went to a muffler shop and had them do it all.
'95 has good base plumbing... 2 3/4" which is plenty big... No need to do the whole cat back thing unless you just have to have that pro mandrel bent look. If you plan to eventually get to headers, dont do the muffler eliminators unless you want to attract way too much attention. I suggest finding a nice stainless straight thru design to replace those weighty and congested stock cans.... There are many brands out there (I use Magnaflows). The stainless straight thru mufflers looks nice, are much lighter weight, and will give you that throaty growl with all the performance improvement you get with muffler elims. You'll spend 175 bucks getting muffler elims installed, and 300 bucks for stainless. Small addtl price to pay, I think. If you seek something a bit more passive, go with a free flowing baffle design.
Check out Texas Quality Exhaust. I can't remember their web site, maybe some other forum member could help with that. Their address is 11706 N. Houston, Roslyn, their phone # is 281-999-8855
I use a Long tube headers straight into the stock resonator. Mufflers are magnaflows.. It is a very tough sounding arrangment. I am very pleased with its performance as well. Orginally stock exhaust manafold with the Magnaflows was strong. But with the Long Tubes, even better. It is not obscene, but definitely causes head turns. Cruising and Highway speeds, no issues with resonance. Idle, is balanced. I feel there are two sounds to listen for with a vehicle at idle. Presence of the notable header high pitch "tick/crackle" and the low end growl at the tail pipe. For myself, I am finding my settup to be very balanced and deliver both of these tones.
I take exception to this!! We used to have fit issues on the C-5, but we now have no fit issues with any C-4 or C-5 application. We use T-304 stainless steel (aircraft grade), and the tips are polished stainless steel. Our Corvette exhaust system sales are up 22% over last year, so I don't think we have gone out of style. We just re-designed our early C-4 tips to be larger with the Borla logo on them. My 86 C-4 is shown below. Our goal for 2002 is to enhance our Corvette offering. We will be attending all major Corvette shows, and look forward to talking to anyone about our systems. Thanks!!
Ric
Ric, I'm not saying it was crap, but my buddy put on some Borlas with the fake LT1 tips. Half the clamps and stuff were missing, they were too quiet for what he was looking for, and they just didn't "hang" right.
On the other hand, one of my C5 buddies has the XR1 on his coupe and I think it looks and sounds great.
Farmer also has a Borla system on her '87 with the double round tips, the look and sound great.
Look for my Route 211 video over in C4 general, you can hear Farmer's car doing a burnout right at the beginning.
I talked to a local shop today that does the Magnaflows. What type of Magnaflow did you use, model, part # ? I see the Stainless Steel and Mirror finish. Also what tips did you put on them?
Thanks.
Sorry, not sure which model. I selected the mirror stainless finish with 3" plumbing (to slide just over the 2 3/4" exhaust).. The shape of the mufflers are good too. They tuck neatly under the car, much better looking for fit and finish than the stock mufflers. Of course there are other quality mufflers out there with the same design and craftsmanship as Magnaflow..
I already had a pair of chrome LT1 tips on the old cans that were salvaged... Old mufflers (though in just fine condition) donated to the shop for the nice job and quick service.. Funny how you can find guys who really like to work on the cars that have a little extra lope to em..
Thanks. I checked their website. Saw the stainless steel and polished stainless. The local shop is going to check the car this week and let me know which ones he can put on and how much. He said the polished ones run about $225ea. Can't be too much involved. All he has to do is cut the pipe and remove the old cans and slip on new ones.
