Default Optispark - II

I now have the top-end torn apart on my 93 Vette.
I have made the decision to upgrade to the electric water pump

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2D3145&FROM=MG

which will allow cloyes 9-3145 double roller chain.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2D3145&FROM=MG

I am going to upgrade to the vented opti II which I understand needs the 95/96 timing cover, do you order these from the GM dealer? I have not found them elsewhere.

On Summit Racing I noticed they have their own brand of Opti. Has anyone used the Summit brand or there is an accel brand? Lining them up it appears they are all same except price? On individual specs Summit / Accel claims to have better unit?

Is this the wiring harness I need to convert to the new gen opti spark?

Does anyone have any instructions on this conversion process along with hooking in the vent line into the 93 system?
Thanks for your anyones help.

Have you considered the MSD Opti for our cars that is vented and comes with the vacuum lines and instructions?

Yes, if looking for new you'll have to get the timing cover from a GM dealership. Get a 95, the 96 had the CPS.

You'll also need a 95/96 opti harness, a 95/96 vaccuum harness, and a different camshaft.

Yes, it is expensive however the goal was more for the electric wp and roller timing chain which prompted the upgrade to the 95/96 opti anyways.
At least this is what research I did indicated...
thanks

I am installing a Comp Cam, 07-503-8 276HR-12 it has 224/230 with the 1.6 RR it should have lift of .537 Int/ .544 Exhaust on a 112 deg sep.
However, my build mentioned I might want to get the same specs with a 114 deg as it would be a little smoother and easier for emissions. I have heard the 112 and the lump doen't bother me... Don't know what I would be giving up with the 114 deg in terms of HP...

You'll like that camshaft, and with a good tune it'll pass emissions testing with 112 LSA. My 224/230 605/622 112 passes Missouri's emissions testing.

Here's a great deal on the opti wire harness. Think I paid around $85 from GM.

Thanks for the the link. I have studied this project so much and everyone on this site has been great at sharing thier expertise.
Yesterday I got the engine torn down, the intake and heads are removed. There was a lot of black on the piston tops and valves, in fact one set of valves had carbon/black flaking off it? Any idea as too the potential cause of this?
I need to modify my puller to get the balancer holder off the crank. You think after all these years they could design this part a little easier to get off. Somehow pounding on the back of it with a 2x4 didn't seem the appropriate method of removal...

BTW, I got the opti off and was wondering what tool will take it apart?
Eventhough I am replacing it I am curious as to it's condition?

Thanks
Ken

The black carbon is likely the result of over-rich a/f mixture.

Be careful removing the damper hub. You do NOT want to damage the female threads in the crank snout. Use the RIGHT tool.

I think it's an E4 Torx socket that will let you inside of the Opti. You can cheat and invert one of the throttle body screws over the screws in the Opti. Makes for a quick & dirty tool in a pinch.

Live well,
