I am having a problem getting my A/C to turn on. I do not see the compressor running at all when I turn on the A/C. I checked every one of the fuses in all three fuse banks on my 1994 Vette and they are fine. The A/C Compressor just will not engage. I am concerned because now both of my cooling fans are not comming on. Are these fans controlled by the A/C. Does anynbody know if low freon can cause the comrpessor not kick in?

If system is low on freon, the compressor will not come on. This is to keep it from burning up!
Note: Your cooling fans should still come on though, even without the A/C compressor running. Factory settings are around 228 degrees though, so it's probably higher than your used to seeing. It's normal and it's the way they were engineered from the factory.

Thank you for your advice. I read one or two posting where someone did say that the compressor will not come on if it is low on freon, so you've just confirmed it. I will have it recharged. As far as the fans go, that's good to know that these engines were designed that way. It is my first Vette and it was scary seeing the temperature climb to 225 degrees, escpecially when I was sitting in traffic. But anyway I love this car. By the way, you're Vette is gorgeous. Thanks, Paul
find the low pressure switch in the suction line of the a/c system (if so equipped). start car and turn a/c on at lowest temp setting. remove electrical connector at the lp switch and jump out the wires IN THE SWITCH. assuming that you have ck'ed all the associated fuses, the a/c compressor should come on. the lp switch is there to prevent the compressor from engaging w/o sufficient refrigerant which is so allowed to run, will damage/seize the compressor.
if it doesn't, you most likely have a bad ac compressor clutch or bad connection at the clutch.
you can also remove the electrical connector at/from the clutch and apply 12vdc directly to the clutch electrical terminals. at that point the clutch should pull in and activate. if it does not activate the clutch is BAD, if it does, you have either a bad ac relay or defective wiring downwind from the relay.
