Default Hood Stuck!

Ive had this happen before and did a search...

The other day, I was gonna jump my car as the battery was dead... the wind slammed my hood shut and it wont open. Fine, I did this a few years ago, it took a while, but I got it and after I got it, it seemed easy...

I did searches on the forums for instructions and pics, but its not opening... Now, I got my tool stuck in there and I think Im screwed...

I need some advice and ideas... and please, post more pics of this area if you got them.

Raise the front of the car. Remove the wheel and the wheel well. Now you can pull on the latch from inside with a hook. You can also turn the cable adjuster by hand to give you more pull with the hood latch. In fact, you might just be able to release the latch just by turning the adjuster tighter as far as it will go.

Once open, do this:

Great idea 86 Pacer! No drilling required. Now I'll be looking for a zip tie.....

Ah, this thread has been very helpful. I just bought another C4 about two months ago, and the hood latch cable adjustment was too loose. I just adjusted the same. Much better now. I have had about three or four occasions over the past couple months where my hood would not open. The problem was staring me in the face. So simple.

Push down on both sides of your hood right over the latches. Sometimes the hood shuts unevenly causing it to stick.

Not when you consider the zip ties in the above picture cost about 7 cents a piece.

Go to this thread and it might help you get it open...whatever, after you do get it open do what it says and shows in pictures to prevent the problem from happening again... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1796464
AND HERE'S THE BEST INSURANCE YOUR PROBLEM WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN (at least on that C4)

Not that I can see. As far as I can see, all that is needed is a open ended and/or adjustable wrench. I can pretty much adjust the same with my fingers.

BTW, I assume one puts the zip ties on both sides?

Yup, both sides! I used 1/16" cable with a loop on both ends using crimp on fasteners.
Cheers

I've owned about 10 C4s since 1984 and can't recall how many times it happened to me. I do know that it happened 3 times before I heard about the Zip tie solution. It's never happened since I started putting the Zip ties on both of my current C4s but if it happens again I know I have the solution.
I sold the magic tool about 2 years ago that "opens the hood" when it sticks. I hated that tool!
It takes me about 15 minutes to install two ZIP ties that cost less that 50 cents on a C4. For that cost and time I will never be without them on my C4s and I've probably put them on at least a dozen friends C4s free of charge. IMHO it's a very inconvenient thing WHEN it happens and it always happens at the wrong time and place.

I have black zip ties on my hood as well. Works great.

Question:
Is there a similar work around for the rear hatch?

Did the exact same with mine before my last road trip. I wish I'd sprayed the cable black before I installed it, just so it was a little less noticeable, though.

I bought that foam that filters the incoming air. Covers it nicely.

After using the "tool" which I made ($20.00 for a piece of rod I don;t think so), I like the cable. What size cable did you use? Something that could be picked up at the "Depot" or Slows.
