Curious however, Why not a big stroker SBC? There are guys running 434's, and soon to be a "450" stroker in the spring. At least that way you know it will fit.

What cubic inches is this? That is a neat project man' Goodluck!

I wanted something with some shock value and the big block will fit the bill. I am not the first to do this so I know it will fit, it just takes a little persuasion.
The .30 over puts it at a 461ci.

Thanks
The L88 scoop looks pretty good on there. I didn't like the C2 scoop so I think that you just saved me some work. Find any more throw em' at me. I will not be doing the hood until the mechanical is done.

I like what I see so far. I am thinking you will need that hood before too long. I drive my C4 every day so a big block would not be a good idea but, I admit it has crossed my mind. That car will be a blast. You should $ave up, you will need that bolt in solid axle Ski_dwn_it has been offering.

This motor will look impressive but it isn't more than many of the the strokers on here with stock rear ends. It could actually be a daily driver if wanted but I don't expect much better mileage than a full size SUV so it will remain a weekend toy.

Cool project.

What do you have to do to the 700r4 for the lock up. What about the other monitored items from the ECM. I have been thinking about putting my 85 on the Carb. But I do have 396 sitting in the shop, now you have my mind wondering, again

I will be watching this one

IMO, this is a great setup because you can have equivalent HP & TQ to a radical SBC with a BBC using a mild cam and you get better drive ability.

I will not be messing with the SBC on my next build

THat will be a boatload of fun, BBs make great torque at low revs.

I hear the aftermarket and GM are working hard at coming out with stuff for the LS 8.1, that oughta be interesting.

Hey Joe,
I was going to use one of those vacuum operated switches for it but I have wired a lock up switch on a 700R4 used in a build years ago (82 Z28) when I wanted the low 1st gear and OD. It was simple and worked fine so I will just do that, the wife is starting to ride me about the small stuff. The rest of the ECM "monitored" items are for either EFI or indicator only so are of no consequence IMHO. I will post after I test fit with the notch to let everyone know the fit so hang on to that 396

I will keep the 396 around. Parts are finally becoming available and reasonable, 10 years ago you would have had to mortgage the house for parts.

Good luck with the Wife stuff

Iroc57

I spoke with my trans guy today about what I would do for lock up on my 85 700r4, he told me he has a valve, he puts in the valve body that is activated by trans pressure to control lock up, he said the older 700r4 could have this done to them , he wasn't sure what years it changed in, no wires or solenoid needed.

Its got me thinking again

A little header paint and it will look factory

I will post pics of the notch once it is welded up

Strange....
I thought that the lock up was an electrical function in the converter. I am picking up the tranny today so I will ask about it.

Hey Joe,
The only thing that my tranny guy knows of for my trans was the kit with the pressure switch on 4th gear that enables the lock up. It still uses the electrical connections.
I will stick with the switch for now on mine but let me know how your setup works.

I was thinking of going to a bargain store to get a gross of them, printing a label "Header Modification Special Tool" and putting on ebay for 19.95 buy it now.

Can I use your "Enforcer" brand name or is it trademarked? People like brand names.

By all means go ahead I don't have it trademarked yet... but the papers are in.
My 3lb sledge is the "enforcer" and the 8lb is called the "pursuader"

Gotta love those special tools we all have.

Im not expert on this but, would building your headers work? Would it affect your budget? That way you camn built them to your needs. I saw that on Musclecar TV...

I did this, I bought header tube from Jegs that is the same size with various bends already in the tube,,, then I cut out the sections that did not fit and welded in new sections that cleared the chassis and spark plugs,,, then had them coated
