i just purchased my first car, which was an 85 corvette greenwood, with some medium engine modifications(cam, chip, intake exaust, etc.) and so far, the only real problem i have with it is that i cant hook to save my life. at anything over 1/3 throttle, about 1800 rpm, i just sit and spin the tires. are there any things i can do that will help me out with traction, or is it just a byproduct of the model? almost forgot, it has the 4spd auto in it.
thanks
a small amount of spin will keep your rear from breaking parts, But if you want the car to hook, just get a set of M/T or BF Goodrich Drag Radials and problem solved.

In my days of stockcar racing we would use something called tire softener, some would spray it on the outside of their tires, some would soak their tires in pan of this, rotating them for days. The way I would use it was add some of this on the inside(14oz.) and rotate the tires for an hour,we had a tire durameter that would measure the softness of a tire(softer means better grip). I would recommend spraying it on the outside as it would expand on the inside of the tire causing air pressure to grow.A good parts cleaner in a spray can with Tyulene works good, just spray some on the tire and it kind of melt. A word of advise use caution!!!!
when u talk about hook...do u mean at the strip or just on the street?
tire age could be an issue...maybe they are over inflated?
cold weather could be it too...
my 85 4+3 will do the same thing...you can't really just stand on it, but you'll go nowhere fast...try a gentle roll into the throttle until the car gets moving...then mash it...enjoy...rinse and repeat
as to the age of my tires, im not exactally sure, but they are old. they are soon getting replaced, and on that note, cant yall recomend some good brands?
sumitomos are good...and they won't break the bank! do i have the standard 9.5 all the way around or did someone upgrade the wheels to 11x17 in the back?
i have 11's on the back i think, the tires are 315, which is a 12. 5 inch tireim looking to get some new wheels, and i beleive they are 11 or 11-5 for the rear
ok...and you probably have the standard 9.5x11 in the front if they are the ZR1 style wheels...there aren't that many tires that are the same tread pattern in both sizes...sumitomo HTR-Z are nice tires...check out tirerack.com....best tire for the $$ as far as i am concerned
